Example with Continuous Scale turned on:
A combo chart (or barchart) that does not use Continuous axis has automatic bar widths, and the width will scale between a minimum and maximum value depending on available space and number of bars. In contrast when using a continuous axis, you want to fit as much data as possible within the view, which often means that individual boxes are sampled and does not represent a single value in the data. Therefore selecting individual values becomes less important (zooming in still allows for this), the range selection feature being more useful.
The size of the bars is automatically calculated for charts when continuous scale is turned on and there is no configuration to be able to control or adjust this. The workaround for the behavior is to turn off continuous scale will allow the bars to be displayed thicker as shown in the screenshots in this article.
