When a distribution takes place, a temporary file representing the QlikView Document is being generated by the task, and this file is by default stored in the ApplicationData folder. It is then being sent to the QlikView Server or to the destination folder. This file write and move adds a significant load to the file share hosting the ApplicationData folder.

This can lead to task execution problems.

This article is considered a possible solution to QlikView 12: Tasks are Not Triggering Correctly, Becoming Queued, Etc.
It is considered part of the fine tuning and optimization options for QlikView Distribution Service implementations.

Environment:

QlikView November 2017 (12.20) SR 8
QlikView November 2018

Resolution

With the introduction of QlikView November 2017 (12.20) SR 8 and QlikView November 2018 (12.30), a new feature has been added that allows pointing the folder used for temporary storage of QlikView documents during distribution to a non-default location.

  • Stop the QlikView Distribution Services on all nodes
  • Locate the configuration file, by default stored in C:\Program Files\QlikView\Distribution Service\QVDistributionService.exe.config
  • Add the following two lines:
<!-- Alternate Path for Temporary files used in distribution, should be local drive on the QDS nodes -->
 <add key="QdsTempFolder" value="Your folder Path"/>
  • Start the QlikView Distribution Services on all nodes

! A folder on a local storage drive of the individual QDS node is recommended for this temporary storage. As soon as the file has been distributed, the temporary file is automatically deleted so the folder will not grow over time.
