Not able to access the QlikView application with error "NO USER LICENSE AVAILABLE FOR THE USER OF THIS SESSION".

The problem occurs despite the user account having proper Professional or Analyzer license allocation.

In the License service logs, similar the following is registered:

"Post https://license.qlikcloud.com/v1/definitions:  dial tcp <public IP>:443: conectex: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.","...res.statusCode":500

Possibly, testing the URL above on the server's browser connects to a webpage that returns 401 Forbidden. (Meaning that tcp connection was possible, but not allowed)

Along with the following when attempting to re-apply the license via QMC under System > License > QlikView Server > QlikView Server License:

Error when applying license: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

For Qlik Sense the error may be registered as documented under There was an error when getting license information from the license server

Environment:

The environment requires connections to the internet to go through a proxy. If this issue does not occur during a new installation, the license may have been applied prior to the internet connection requirement was set in the environment.

The above line was retrieved from a QlikView License Service environment. However, similar would be expected for Qlik Sense. See documentation under Configuring a proxy for Qlik License Service communication in Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows

Resolution:

  1. Check the proxy settings required to reach the internet and add it to the Qlik License Service "service.conf" file. If when testing via IE the 401 Forbidden is observed, the Proxy setting used by Internet Explorer under Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings can be used.

  2. Under the license.parameters section add the proxy-uri URL where <server name> is the proxy hostname and <port> is the required connection tcp port.

  3. For Qlik Sense edit

    %Program Files%\Qlik\Sense\ServiceDispatcher\service.conf

    For QlikView edit

    %Program Files%\
    QlikView\ServiceDispatcher\service.conf

    [licenses.parameters]
    ...
    -proxy-uri=http://<server name>:<port>

  4. Restart the Qlik Dispatcher Service.
  5. In a multi-node installation may need to repeat these steps for all the nodes.
