After upgrade of QlikView to version 12.30 or newer, Text Objects are not rendering properly when using IE Plugin. The text seems to have increase in size or Text Object shrunk cause it to become cut off.

Environment:

  • QlikView Server IE Plugin 12.30 and newer

Cause:

Starting on QlikView 12.30, the default rendering engine has changed, except for when accessing documents using the 32-bit QlikView IE Plugin which is installed on clients by running the QvPluginSetup.exe file available for download via QlikView AccessPoint site. (server default location: %ProgramFiles%\QlikView\Server\QlikViewClients\QlikViewPlugin)

The misalignment between which rendering engine is used between server (for Ajax and QlikView Desktop, uses Skia) and the IE Plugin (uses GDI+) may sometimes cause rendering issues with certain apps.

A request has been submitted to R&D for correcting the issue on when using GDI+. (Product Defect ID QV-20350)

Resolution:

 ! Information provided on this defect is given as is at the time of documenting.  For up to date information, please review the most recent Release Notes, or contact support at support.qlik.com with the ID QV-20350 / QV-19900 for reference.

Workaround(s):

  • On version 12.30 and newer, enable GDI+ on QlikView Desktop (uses Skia by default on newer versions), and fix the discrepancies caused by the upgrade. After which, IE Plugin (32-bit) should render properly as it also uses GDI+ by default. See Clarification regarding new Skia rendering engine and IE Plugin
  • Change the rendering engine used by IE Plugin to Skia in order to align with the new engine used by the server by default. See Clarification regarding new Skia rendering engine and IE Plugin
  • Another option is to instead of installing the IE Plugin on clients, install QlikView Desktop (which installed a 64-bit IE Plugin that uses Skia by default) manually or silently (by use of Group Policy). See How to install QVPlugin or QlikView Desktop silently. However, please note there is an open product defect under investigation due to inability to use the 64-bit IE Plugin version.
