What is MFA
When signing up for Qlik Sense Cloud, you may have noticed that you are required to set up some kind of MFA. MFA stands for Multi Factor Authentication.
What does this mean? Wikipedia defines it as:
An authentication method in which a computer user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence to an authentication mechanism: knowledge, possession, and inherence.
Essentially, this means that after submitting your username and password, you will be asked to supply a code generated by an MFA application. There are a few different MFA apps to choose from. Guiding Tech put together a list that compares 5 different MFA apps for iPhone and Android.
Do you have to use a mobile device for MFA? No, MFA can be set up with a mobile device or using desktop options like One Login, Authy, etc. Follow this link to find out more.
Is MFA mandatory?
Yes and no.
- MFA is mandatory for the service account owner (the person who creates the tenant). MFA is optional during a Qlik Sense Business trial period. When a trial completes and turned into a paid subscription, service account owners and tenant admins are asked to setup MFA at the next log in. Service account owners cannot disable MFA after conversion to a paid subscription.
- MFA is not mandatory for invited users and tenant admins.
Overall, Multi Factor Authentication is easy to setup and adds an extra layer of security for accessing Qlik Sense Business. Once the MFA is setup do not delete the app and be sure to save your recovery code as you may need it in the future. Need to troubleshoot? Follow this link for troubleshooting steps.
If, for some reason, you lose access to your MFA and need assistance, contact Customer Support by creating a case in the Support Portal.
