Question
What is the difference between SAP Application and SAP Application (DB) Endpoints?
Answer
There are several architectural differences between the two endpoints. The SAPAppDB is more modern and is able to provide a great performance benefit.
The DB Endpoint is also able to process pooled and clustered tables without the need for RFC calls.
SAP Application Endpoint
Replicate calls the custom RFC functions, provided by GoldClient.
These functions provide SAP table metadata, table content for the followings:
- Pooled tables
- Cluster tables
- STXL table.
SAP Application DB Endpoint
The SAPAppDB does not need to connect to the SAP Application Server, thus the Endpoint does not require this info.
All of the followings are retrieved from the underlying database:
- SAP Metadata.
- Table content.
