In some QlikView environments you have 2 QlikView Management Services installed, so in case the primary one is down as the server is down, you can enable the second one as a disaster recovery solution. Please, bear in mind only one QMS service can be active on a QlikView environment. Having 2 QMS services running at the same time will bring instability to the QlikView environment.
In order to be able to use the secondary QMS service in case the node where the primary one is down is to set up a backup of the QVPR folder in location where all the nodes have access, like a share folder. To do this we need to open the QMC,
System,
Setup and select
Management Service. Then we go to the
Repository tab and we fill the
Optional backup path with the desired destination.
This will allow us to have a recent backup of the QVPR folder in a share path where all nodes have access, otherwise the QVPR backup will be stored on the nodes that might be down and we could not access to it.
In case your environment has publisher licenses then you also need to copy the
Publisher LEF folder and the
reginfo from C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService to you backup location and afterwards to the same location for where the secondary QMS is installed.
Finally in case you need to activate the secondary QMS you will need to restore the latest QVPR backup in the following path - C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR. Once down you can start the services and work within your QlikView environment while you recover your primary QMS service.
