In April 2019 it is work fine.
The issue is to do with the evaluation of null() inside of the range definiton for the y-axis. Previous to this update, a value of null() meant that the chart would behave as though you had not set a custom range and calculate the appropriate range. Now when a value of null() is entered the axis labels disappear and the range gets stuck to whatever the previous range was.
To replicate:
Edit>Appearance>Y-axis>Range to"custom>Max>null()
