Installer cannot find .msi when upgrading QlikView Desktop

When performing a major upgrade of the desktop client, the installation fails at the stage while it's removing the previous installation. The error is that the necessary .msi file cannot be found.

Environment:

QlikView Desktop, any

Resolution:
Since the .msi that cannot be found is the one from the old installation, perform these steps (adapted from  How To Perform Complete/Clean Uninstall Of QlikView ):

 

1. Delete the QlikView directory under C:\Program Files 
2. Delete the QlikTech folder under C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\
3. Delete the QlikTech Keys under Software for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the Windows registry.
4. To locate the individual keys, use the Regedit Search function, querying for Qlik
5. Restart the machine to finalize Windows registry changes

Please note: Should the QlikView Server product also be installed on the same machine, removing keys from the registry and files from "C:\Program Files" will affect the server installation.

In case of doubts about what to change in that specific scenario, the cleanest way to go is:

• uninstall the QlikView Server first while making sure to preserve the Program Data and the other application data folders,
• perform the cleanup mentioned above,
• upgrade the Desktop Client,
• reinstall the QlikView Server.
