Environment:
Help site of Distribution plot https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/February2019/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/Visualizations/DistPlot/distribution-plot.htm does not yet mention this limitation.
Similar limitation is mentioned for line chart: "The approximate limit for the number of data points that can be displayed in a line chart is 10000" at https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/February2019/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/Visualizations/LineChart/line-chart.htm
Qlik R&D confirmed that this limitation is currently set to 3,000 points for performance reasons and not configurable as of the latest versions of Qlik Sense (February and April 2019).
R&D is continuously working on improving the performance in Qlik Sense charts so as to lift the limit in further releases of Qlik Sense.
