Best Practice: Clustering Directory Service Connector services

The Directory Service Connector (DSC) is responsible for retrieving user information related to end users from a variety of sources, including (but not limited to) Active Directory, LDAP, ODBC, and Custom Users.

The web server uses DSC for group resolution, the Distribution Service uses it to look up e-mail addresses or UIDs during distribution, and the Management Service uses it to help the administrator find users and groups.

Due to the DSC being constantly queried by multiple services in the environment, it is recommended to have the following setup to reduce DSC latency in response

• 1 DSC service / cluster per Distribution Service role (1 or multiple nodes)
• 1 DSC service / cluster per QlikView Web Server (QVWS) role (1 or multiple nodes)
• Optionally also add a DSC service on the Management Service server for reduced latency in querying the user directory when searching for users and groups via the different screens in the QMC (user / document license assignment, task distribution list)
