Description
How to setup your browser to ensure getting a user and password prompt when connecting to QlikSense QMC or QlikSense Hub .Browser settings for ad connector logon prompt.
Environment:
Qlik Sense Enterprise
Microsoft Edge
Internet Explorer
Chrome and Firefox
Resolution
Internet Explorer & Microsoft Edge
The default is "Automatic logon only in Intranet zone". If IE thinks that the Qlik Sense site is not in the "Intranet zone" it prompts for logon. If you add the Qlik Sense site URL to the "Intranet Zone" the browser will not prompt and Qlik Sense will logon as expected In the advanced settings for local intranet the url, https://'insert IP address'/qmc for the site needs to be added. The ip address for the host needs to be white listed in the Virtual Proxy in QMC.
You can as well add the site to Trusted Sites (not local intranet), but, this configuration is slightly more elaborate. Specifically, to connect externally without getting any prompts, this can be achieved Internet Explorer, not in MS Edge. For the latter, best result I could achieve was a password prompt only (the user was remembered ok). In Internet Explorer you can connect without any prompt, however the settings required might not be possible on a corporate domain computer with restricted access through group policy.
To get no prompt at all in internet explorer connecting from another site: * Connect to the url https://'insert IP address'/qmc (or /hub) * The ip address for the host needs to be white listed in the Virtual Proxy in QMC. * In internet options in windows control panel: * Add URL to trusted site. * Lower slider 'Security level for this zone' to low * Ensure automatic logon is enabled for internet sites as well as intranet sites.
Chrome & Firefox
In Chrome, once the credentials are stored, it should just open Sense, without any prompts. It will initially tell you the site is not secure due the type of security certificate used (sense uses a self-signed and not trusted one), however, once that is done, you can open Sense with no prompt. (this works for the windows credentials in your current user session, or any user with credentials stored in the browser, however, it will always bring you back to the last credentials saved, which might not be best practice)
In Firefox, you need to add a security exception the first time you login. After remembering the credentials, the second time you login, the password prompt box comes up with the credentials already filled in, and you can just click ok and enter.
