Manually Qualify with a Variable Gives Unexpected Token Error in Load Script

Description

An issue was reported where the use of a variable to manually qualify fields in the load script failed in November 2018.

[SomeColumnName] as $(tableNameVariable)_[SomeColumnName]

The error given is Unexpected token: '[SomeColumnName]', expected one of: ',',

Environment: Qlik Sense November 2018
This issue was not present in Sept 2017 release of Qlik Sense.

Here is an example inline load script which illustrates the behavior:

Set tableNameVariable = KensTable;
KenData1:
Load * Inline [
Name, KenNumField
John, 11
Mary, 21
];
//this one does NOT work in Nov 2018 P2 but does work in Sept 2017
KenData2:
Load
Name,
KenNumField as $(tableNameVariable)_[KenNumField]
Resident KenData1;

// this one works in Nov 2018 P2 and Sept 2017
// KenData2:
// Load
// Name,
// KenNumField as $(tableNameVariable).KenNumField
// Resident KenData1;

Cause

This was reported as a bug but the bug was closed as working as designed.

Resolution

This issue was reproduced by Qlik Support and a bug was logged for R&D to investigate further. QLIK-93355. This bug was closed as working as designed and 2 alternative syntax options were given.

Solution:
The following syntax options work for this scenario without any error:

KenNumField as [$(tableNameVariable)_[KenNumField]]]
KenNumField as "$(tableNameVariable)_[KenNumField]"

Additional Workarounds:

Remove the brackets around the column name. This requires that there are no spaces in the column name.
Another workaround option is to use the Qualify / Unqualify statements to allow the field to be qualified by the Qlik engine with the table name / worksheet name as described in help.qlik.com page about Qualify / Unqualify.
