. The current Custom User Directory is then truncated. Groups are deleted and users are removed from groups. An old copy of the file needs to be reinstated.

The root cause and resolution to this is currently unknown.
This was seen in an environment hosting the Management Service installed on a Windows 7 client operating system, with host names exceeding the Microsoft recommended 15 character limit.
A workaround in the specific scenario included editing the User Directory on disk, as long as no passwords are needed for the user accounts. Those would need to be encrypted, which cannot be done in the .xml file directly.
To resolve the issue, the system needs to be installed on a supported operating system with Microsoft recommendations on host names in place.
