Problems installing Qlik Sense when the system language is Norwegian Bokmål - Verifying any existing databases exist fails.

The Qlik Sense Database Service will not start up if the system language is set to Norwegian Bokmål. This causes the repository service to not install successfully.

The installer logs will show:

In the Windows event logs (application) at the same time you will see:
 

The description for Event ID 0 from source PostgreSQL cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can
computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
LOG: invalid value for parameter "lc_time": "Norwegian Bokmï^1/il_Norway.1252"

and then:

The description for Event ID 0 from source PostgreSQL cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:

FATAL: configutration file "C:/Programdata/Qlik/Sense/Repository/PostgreSQL/9.6/postgres.conf" contains errors"

This is a known PostgreSQL issue with support for norwegian bokmål:

Resolution:


Chage the language used for the system language.

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel
  2. Go to Region
  3. Click Administrative
  4. Choose Current Language for non-unicode programs: 
  5. Change this from Norsk bokmål to English (United States)
  6. Go to the Windows Control Panel
  7. Choose Language
  8. Add English as the default
