When you try to use the option
'Mail with bookmark as a link' within a QlikView document on a Windows based laptop, it correctly opens your e-mail client with a link to the bookmark.
However when you try the same on an iOS Mobile device with the Safari browser, nothing happens.
In this example the iPad has only the 3rd party Outlook App configured for email, the iOS Mail App was not configured on the device.
Why does this work on the Windows based laptop and not the iOS Mobile Device?
Environment:
- QlikView All Versions
- Mobile iOS All Versions
At the time of writing ( iOS 12.1 ) it is not possible to configure the 3rd party Outlook for iOS App on an iOS Mobile device the default email client.
So although Outlook is "compatible" with Apple devices, iOS Mobile devices currently don't allow users to select Outlook as a 'default' email client. This is the important part.
As a result when you select a link or button in an application that uses the mailto: command to automatically create an email, it cannot then choose the Outlook App. It can only use whatever is configured as the default email client on the iOS Device.
You can confirm the applications that you can use as default for email by selecting Settings>Mail> Default account, you'll see that Outlook is not available to select there. At the time of writing, some other Mail Apps besides Mail for iOS may be selectable here for example the Gmail App, but right now Outlook is not available.
The "Mail bookmark as link" button is only generating this same standard mailto: command to the default email client.
There is nothing we can change in QlikView to help with that.
This is more about the lack of full integration of the Outlook for iOS App with iOS Mobile devices and not a limitation of QlikView.
The Outlook for iOS App is not fully integrated into Mobile iOS devices and therefore cannot be selected as the default email client within the devices email settings.
Workaround:
- If you can configure your devices' default email account in the regular iOS Mail app then "Mail with bookmark as a link" should work normally.
