QlikView: dashboards cannot be opened in Internet Explorer anymore. "Loading" message appears indefinitely.

Suddenly, it's not possible to open dashboards in Internet Explorer anymore, either in AJAX or with the plug-in.
A "Loading" message is shown
Everything worked fine before: nothing has changed in the QlikView setup, and there are no problems with other browsers.
The issue affects a number of users, and started happening suddenly.

Resolution
This is usually caused by a change in the group policies concerning Internet Explorer.
Please, verify with the internal IT and the domain administrators to check whether anything was modified and, possibly, revert the changes.
