Qlik Reload fails with QVX_UNEXPECTED_END_OF_DATA: Connection broken unexpectedly, Connection failed

A Qlik App (Qlik Sense or QlikView) failed to reload with the follow error:

QVX_UNEXPECTED_END_OF_DATA: SQL##f – SqlState: 00000, ErrorCode: 0, ErrorMsg: Connection broken unexpectedly, Connection failed

Environment:

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows 
QlikView 

Connection broken unexpectedly, Connection failed indicates that the connection has been terminated.

A possible cause of this could be a firewall or other security measure falsely identifying the connection as a security threat/attack.
