Active Directory UDC Sync Timeout after 30 mins Qlik Sense
Article Number: 000044635 | Last Modified: 2018/09/07
Description
In a complex AD structure the UDC timesout after exactly 30 mins. No users are retrieved or syncronised into the repository database.
Using an Active Directory User Directory Connector it may not be possible to synchronise around 1,000 users into Qlik Sense from a complex AD structure due to a hard coded 30 minute timeout on the UDC sync task. The AD structure is complex and in this example contained these users spread across hundreds of groups containing subgroups. Additionally using a very slow nested LDAP query on the UDC in order to select specific users. Adjusting the "synchronisation timeout (seconds)" setting on the UDC beyond 1,800 seconds therefore has no additional effect due to this hard coded 30 minutes. The User Directory log files report a failure to fetch users " The operation has timed out "
Cause
A complex AD structure combined with a very slow nested LDAP query causes the UDC sync task to take longer than 30 minutes to complete. The hard coded 30 minute timeout on the UDC therefore comes into effect.
Resolution
Raising the hardcoded time out of the UDC sync task to 3 hours (180 minutes). This has been tested in a diagnostic build and it allows successful synchronisation of these users.
The timeout increase will be incorporated into the Qlik Sense April 2018 release time-frame.
