When loading a table with country and city names, Qlik Sense is not able to find the Geo information for some record. For examples :

  • City = "Le Noirmont", country = "CH", no result
  • City = "Delémont", country = "CH", no result

Environment:

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows

City names recognition in Qlik Sense is meant to cover 'common' cities with their commonly known name variations, as determined by GeoNames.org (http://www.geonames.org/). We currently use their list of cities with population of 15,000 or more. Therefore, cities with smaller population such as "Le Noirmont" or "Delémont" may not be included in the list. This behavior is therefore working as designed.

Resolution:

Check the city names against http://www.geonames.org/. Make sure that the city name spelling is correct, and the city under question has a fairly large population (i.e approximately 15,000 or more).
If these two conditions are not met, please consider using:

  1. Qlik GeoAnalytics instead of the native map object of Qlik Sense for better map data visualization.
  2. Your own map data. Details
