How to use Notification connector in combination with another WebConnector (eg. BigQuery)Article Number: 000036109 | Last Modified: 2018/10/23
By using Qlik Notification Connector emails can be sent from QlikView or Qlik Sense Script Editor in order to report any errors or confirmation messages to an email address.
In order to establish a connection with the SMTP server via the WebConnectors UI, the user needs to enter the SMTP details following the port that the SMTP is listening.
eg. if the user has an email like firstname.lastname@example.org and the SMTP listens to port 25 without the use of SSL, SMTP the result must be: mail.example-domain.com:25 and disable the use of the SSL form Qlik Notification Connector UI.
Using a google account and following the Google SMTP details from https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600?hl=en we may user face up some errors using port 465 with SSL. A quick workaround is to use port 587 and SSL (where is actually TLS).
Now that the connection with the Notification connector has been established we can attach up to 5 files, eg. WebConnector and Script logs and use the generated script from the Notification connector to your Qlik View or Sense script editor.
This, can became more interesting if for example we combine it with a BigQuery connector where the task / connection might take a while. Establish a BigQuery connection from the WebConnector UI, add your query from Google and use the generated script from the BigQuery connector to your Qlik View or Sense script editor. Assuming that the user knows the type of data expects, he can trace for any errors or even compare data in the script and:
- either re-run the BigQuery task / connection using eg. an if statement (or something that matches better to the script)
- either send an email with the log files attached by using the Notification connector
- or both of the above suggestions
