Join UsIn Qlik Sense, It is possible to change the location of the "ProgramData" and the repository folder by using Windows symbolic links.
Symbolic links are basically shortcuts. A symbolic link can be created to an individual file or folder, and that link will appear to be the same as the file or folder to Window, even though it’s just a link pointing at the file or folder. The symbolic links can be created in Windows via the 'mklink ' command.
For more information about symbolic links please see: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753194(v=ws.11).aspx
For example, in Qlik Sense, a symbolic link can change the location of the default "C:\ProgramData\" folder, to store this directory at a new drive such as "D:\Sense\".
Qlik Sense requires that the default files be at "C:\ProgramData\". This directory can move from "C:\ProgramData\" to "D:\Sense\, and then create a symbolic link for "C:\ProgramData\" pointing to "D:\Sense\". When Qlik Sense is re started, it will try to access its directory at "C:\ProgramData\" . Windows will automatically redirect it to "D:\Sense\", and everything will just work as if it were in "C:\ProgramData\"
For new installations of QlikSense:
1. Install Qlik Sense into the default location "C:\ProgramData\"
2. Create symbolic link to "D:\Sense\" or any specific folder on a specific drive or a network drive
3. Stop the Qlik Sense services
4. Copy all the files and folders from "C:\ProgramData\" to "D:\Sense\"
5. Start the Qlik Sense services
For existing installations of Qlik Sense:
1. Run the default installation or upgrade process and install Qlik Sense into the default location
2. Create a symbolic link to "D:\Sense\" or any specific folder on a specific drive
3. Stop the Qlik Sense services
4. Copy all the files and folders from the default folder "C:\ProgramData\" to "D:\Sense\"
5. Start the Qlik Sense services
It is not supported and not recommended to use symbolic links. It has been proven that symbolic links can cause system instability and repository database performance issues caused by slow, poor or loss of communication. However, issues in symbolic links environment that also occur in a non-symbolic environment are supported.
