In the QlikView Management Console the QlikView Distribution Service is shown as requiring a restart ("Need Restart"). This can happen after configuration changes were done to the Management Service or the Distribution Service, and can lead to tasks not executing correctly or inconsistently.
There are two most common root causes for this issue:
Two or more Management Service are online in the QlikView environment and are attempting to control the Distribution Services.
Solution: Disable all but one Management Service and restart the Distribution Services (QDS)
Individual Distribution Services are pointing at the same Application Data folder, overwriting each others operational files
Solution: Unless a QDS cluster is in use, Application Data folders cannot be shared across multiple services. To resolve this, the configuration needs to be reset.
- In the Management Console, point the individual Distribution Service to individual folders, or to their local C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\DistributionService standard location
- Stop the Management Service and all Distribution Services
- Rename the currently in use Distribution Service Application Data folders on disk (local and remote). This is to ensure no old configuration files will interfere with the next step.
- Start all Services
- This will newly populate the Distribution Service Application Data and the services will now no longer require a restart.
