In the QlikView Management Console (QMC) the QlikView Distribution Service is shown as requiring a restart (Need Restart). This can happen after configuration changes were done to the QlikView Management Service (QMS) or the QlikView Distribution Service (QDS), and can lead to tasks not executing correctly or inconsistently.

Cause

Typically, there are two main causes for this issue:

  • Two or more QlikView Management Services are online in the QlikView Server environment and are attempting to control the Distribution Services
  • Multiple non-clustered QlikView Distribution Services are pointing towards the same QDS Application Data folder and therefore overwriting the other QDS's operational files

Resolution

Only one QlikView Management Service is allowed to run in a QlikView Server environment:

  1. Disable any additional QMS
  2. Restart the QlikView Distribution Service(s)

Non-clustered QlikView Distribution Services pointing towards the same QDS Application Data folder will not work. Reset the QDS configuration:

  1. In the QMC, point the individual QDS to individual folders solely for their individual use, or to their local %ProgramData%\QlikTech\DistributionService default location
  2. In the Windows Services applet, stop the QMS and all QDS services
  3. In Windows File Explorer, rename the current QDS Application Data folder to ensure no old configuration files interfere with the configuration
  4. Start the QMS and all QDS services to populate each individual QDS Application Data folder
