There are two separate Facebook related Connectors in Qlik Web Connectors
- The Facebook Fan Pages & Groups Connector
- The Facebook Insights Connector
Facebook Fan Pages Connector
The Facebook Fan Pages Connector should (some Facebook Fan Pages have geographical boundaries) allow you to access data for any publicly visible Facebook Fan Page or Group (and may even work for other Facebook object types although these are not officially supported). This allows you to extract data such as:
- Number of page likes.
- Posts on the page's wall and likes on these comments.
- Comments (and replies to comments) and likes for these.
- Basic information on the users who are posting on the page.
In this way you could, for example, build a QlikView application comparing your own Facebook Fan Pages against those of your peers showing such things as:
- Likes for the overall pages over time.
- Trends in the volume of posts, comments and likes on those objects.
- Top posters.
You can also then run the posts and comments through the Qlik Web Connectors - Upgrading to version 1.1 of the Sentiment Analysis & Text Analytics Connector
and analyse how sentiment is trending.
The connector also contains tables to extract objects such as events, files, photos, albums, questions & votes as well as tables to search for various types of objects across Facebook.
Facebook Insights Connector
Whereas the Facebook Fan Pages Connector should allow you to access data on any public Facebook Fan Page (or Group), the Facebook Insights Connector only allows you to access data for Facebook objects (e.g. Fan Pages, Groups, Applications) for which you are an admin.
You might usefully think of Facebook Insights as analagous to Google Analytics for your website, providing various metrics about usage of the property. The following is taken from the Facebook Insights home page
.Facebook Insights provides developers and Page owners with metrics about their content. By understanding and analyzing trends about usage and demographics as well as consumption and creation of content, you can be better equipped to improve your business and create better experiences on Facebook.
You can see a full list of the metrics which should be available via this connector here
