Cannot establish a connection to Qlik Sense: Qlik Sense Management Console after Changing Host Name
Article Number: 000009236 | Last Modified: 2018/06/12
Description
The certificates that Qlik Sense uses for its services are tied to the hostname. Qlik Sense will generate new certificates if the old ones are missing or damaged, but it does not use the current machine name it uses the name found in %ProgramData%\Qlik\Sense\host.cfg. Without the correct certificates you cannot access the Qlik Management Console nor will any other Qlik Sense services operate correctly.
Cause
The certificates that Qlik Sense uses for its services are tied to the hostname. Qlik Sense will generate new certificates if the old ones are missing or damaged, but it does not use the current machine name it uses the name found in %ProgramData%\Qlik\Sense\host.cfg. Without the correct certificates you cannot access the Qlik Management Console nor will any other Qlik Sense services operate correctly.
Resolution
Remember that the host.cfg file contains a base64 encoded string, so to see what it contains you will first need to decode it using a tool like https://www.base64decode.org/ You will also need to use that tool to encode your new hostname in base 64
To change the host Sense uses in its certificates, first: 1. Shut down all Qlik Sense services 2. Delete the old Qlik Sense certificates using mmc 3. Open %ProgramData%\Qlik\Sense\host.cfg 4. Replace the contents with the base64 encoded hostname 5. Start up the Qlik Sense services.
