A user creates a new app on the Qlik Sense hub but are unable to add a new connection of the type 'Folder'. The Folder option in the list of available data connections is unavailable.

 User-added image

Cause:

The user is not a ContentAdmin or a RootAdmin and no specific security rule is matching for this user which enables the user to add a Folder data connection.

Resolution:

Out of the box, the folder connection is only available to users with the Role of RootAdmin or ContentAdmin.

The Qlik Sense system administrator will need to set up the user with the ContentAdmin role or create or modify the existing security rules.

By default, the security rule DataConnection prevents users from selecting the Folder data connection.

Examples:

  • Modifying the condition of the DataConnection condition from ((resource.type!="folder"))  to  (()) will allow every user to select Folder when creating a new data connection.
  • Disabling the rule FolderDataConnection the option All files will be grayed out for users when creating a new data connection.

Note: If you don’t want your users to be exploring the hard drive of the nodes they are on, ensure the folder connection is protected by a security rule.

The above example is provided for demonstration purposes to explain a specific scenario. No support or maintenance is implied or provided. Further customization is expected to be necessary and it is the responsibility of the end administrator to test and implement an appropriate rule for their specific use case.
