When trying to start the QlikView Distribution Service and QlikView Management Consoles, the services fail to start with error 1067. and QMS, both of them gives error 1067 and will not start.

The respective service logs read:

Error Exception=System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the registry key 'Global' is denied.

This indicates insufficient permissions. The issue points towards being regarding performance counters, but it is not possible to disable and/or remove them. All services work fine under another user local account which is in "Administrators" and "QlikView Administrators".

Resolution:

The problem is environmental, related to Windows permissions.

Give full control to services account to the following path:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Perflib

Cause:

The account seems to have insufficient privileges to add monitoring counters, causing the services not to start.
