Distributing to large a number of AD groups with QlikView Distribution Serivce results in failure

A distribution attempt to a large number of AD groups (over a thousand) results in failure. The QlikView Distribution Service (QDS) logs show several "ExecuteWithAttachments returned no data in buffer" before the failure.

Resolution

ExecuteWithAttachments returned no data in buffer means usually that the QlikView Server (QVS) on the other side is struggling in receiving the data.

This may be because the server is currently at a peak RAM and CPU consumption (too many users, an app which is not optimized causing resource depletion, etc..) or is carrying out a complex calculation.

A possible alternative to avoid a bottleneck with QlikView Server resources is to distribute to a folder, rather than to the QlikView server directly.

That way, the QlikView server is bypassed and the Distribution Service distributes directly to the file system, avoiding possible bottlenecks.

The same folder that is used as a document mount can be picked, and there will be no difference apart from Windows handling the transfer and not the QlikView Server.
