Upgrade to a released Qlik Sense Patch (e.g. February Patch 1) fails with the following message:

Update failed
One or more of the files affected by the patch could not be changed. The following application(s) may be locking the files: Printing,Repository.
For detailed information see the log.

In the install logs similar to the following:
...
5/10/2020 2:08:52 AM - Validation of \Repository\Repository.WebSocketServer.dll failed: The process cannot access the file 'D:\Qliksense\Repository\Repository.WebSocketServer.dll' because it is being used by another process.
5/10/2020 2:08:53 AM - Update failed
5/10/2020 2:08:53 AM - One or more of the files affected by the patch could not be changed. The following application(s) may be locking the files: Printing,Repository.
...

Environment:

  • Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows, February 2020

Qlik Sense services are being automatically started after the Upgrade wizard automatically stops them in order to perform the upgrade. This effectively locks files that need to be updated and the upgrade fails.

Resolution:

Ensure the services are not being started by any monitoring agent(s) in the environment.

Workaround(s):

  • Set all Qlik Sense services to "Manual" prior to upgrading.
