After moving to a Terminal Server farm, the license lease wont be renewed, because the number of machine IDs exceeds the concurrent lease limit.

Environment:

Resolution:

QlikTech strongly discourages Desktop Virtualization of the QlikView development tools unless the virtualization host is dedicated to QlikView (eg Microsoft Terminal Services connection to a QlikView Publisher host) to minimize contention for resources. Because of the two machine limitation of a Borrowed CAL, QlikTech recommends that if QlikView Desktop is published to a Citrix XenApp Farm then the “Published Application” should be constrained to no more than two specific Servers otherwise the User will observe that QlikView Personal Edition is unable to elevate to QlikView Desktop on some nodes of the Server farm. If the customer insists on deploying QlikView Desktop to more than two hosts that the developer will use (whether physical or virtualized), then QlikTech requires them to acquire a Local Client License for each host where QlikView will be used by that user.

If there's need to scale the development farm to greater then two Windows servers,  then it is suggested that the developer community be split in two and have half the developers use 1 farm of 2 servers and another half use a different farm of 2 servers .

License lease only allows a borrowed CAL to be used twice in a 24 hour / 7 day period, depending on the version. This can cause problems if the user connects to many different servers in a Citrix "Farm" during this time. A single user can lease up to two to six licenses (depending upon the version) to separate workstations concurrently within a 24 hour / 7 day period. An attempt to lease an additional license in a 24 hour / 7 day period will be revoked if the same User ID is used. Additionally, the existing license lease of the additional machine, should there be one previously existing, will be revoked in the case where the same User ID has leased a license from two other workstations in the previous 24 hour / 7 day period. The additional machine will however be able to lease a license after 24 hours / 7 days have passed.

The quarantine time for Named User and Document CALs will be set to 7 days by the following deliveries:

QlikView 11.20 SR18
QlikView 12.00 SR6
QlikView 12.10 and later
QlikView November 2017 up to latest
