Cannot delete temporary tmp files in Temp folder on Qlik Sense server

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows stores temporary files for its operations in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp. These files are deleted automatically.

Other processes may lock files in the folder and prevent automatic deletion.

Resolution

  • Verify what processes are locking the files. This can be achieved using a 3rd party program such as Procmon.
  • Verify if Windows has a pending system reboot.
  • Verify that the user running the Qlik Sense services has the correct permissions to not only create, but also delete/modify files.

in what cases and for what purposes are these temporary files created? where can I see more information?

Hello @korsikov

These files can have any number of purposes. Specifically, we store installation files and files which are accessed and used by our microservices during operation (-access text files).

If you have any specific files in mind, it may be best to open a support ticket and inquire about their use through this (if they are not already documented), as we can get in touch with our developers through this route.

All the best,
Sonja

@Sonja_Bauernfeind  Thanks you for replay.

But I found that sometimes during the reboot task Engine.exe creates very large TMP files in the TEMP folder which causes the disk to run out of free space. If you can, please share additional information or links to resources where you can learn more in what cases this happens and how to manage creating TMP files process.

Hello @korsikov

This does not sound like ordinary behaviour. Have you set up any sort of crash dump handling for the engine process that might be writing files there?

Either way, I suggest logging a support ticket about this to have this investigated.

Include the following when you do:

  • Version of Qlik Sense
  • What files are being generated and when? (folder path, extension, content - provide an example if possible)

All the best,
Sonja
