When connected via VPN, a server can only be accessed via an IP address.

Using the hostname will fail with errors like:

This site can’t be reached hostname’s server IP address could not be found.  Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.  DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

Connecting from the company's network shows no errors.

Environment:

QlikView
Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows
Qlik NPrinting

This issue is caused by DNS settings. When using the VPN, a different DNS server is probably used than when connecting via the internal network.

Resolution:

Two possible solutions:

  1. Change the DNS server used when connecting via the VPN to match the one used on the internal network. Check with the company's IT/Network management to know how that can be done
  2. Add a static hostname/IP mapping to the client computers' host file. Instructions can be found, for instance, here.
