or

System.Exception: Failed to retrieve settings from QlikView Server. ||    in QMSBackendCore.Service.ServiceImpl.

Resolution

The possible causes of this issue are:

Service Account Group Membership Missing

The service account is not a member of the local Administrators and/or the QlikView Administrators security groups and/or the account is added into the group but is not reflected in the Operating System yet.
Note: After the initial installation of QlikView, reboot the host machine to ensure the security groups are correctly applied.

Service Account Permissions

The service account used does not have the required permissions to let the services communicate. It may not be allowed to run as a service or have required permissions blocked by domain policies.

This includes access to the QlikView Server ProgramData folder.

To troubleshoot:

  • If a domain account is used:
    1. Create a local account
    2. Add it to the QlikView Administrators and local Administrators group.
    3. Change the service account used
    4. Test
  • If a local account is used:
    1. Change the currently used service account to Local System
    2. Test

Application Data folder permissions or corrupted data

The Application Data folder (C:\ProgramData\QlikTech) may have some corrupted files or security-related issues.

Servername exceeds 15 characters

Windows does not allow for server names beyond 15 characters.

Blocked Ports

The QlikView Server service TCP port 4747 may be blocked.  This can happen in a single node server as well as distributed implementations, be sure to confirm firewall settings on the server(s) allow communication between the services over the port.

Kerberos encryption method RC4_HMAC_MD5 is disabled on the Server

Refer to Qlik  KB article Disabling Kerberos encryption method RC4_HMAC_MD5 causes QlikView Server to disconnect
