Not able to Reload Metadata - Connection failed on all NPrinting engines "Article Number: 000055342 | Last Modified: 2019/01/17
Error in the NPrinting console:
Error in the Nprinting_engine.log:
ERROR: System.InvalidOperationException: Failed to open a QlikView instance. ---> System.AggregateException: One or more errors occurred. ---> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Category does not exist.↓↓↓↓Server stack trace: ↓↓ at System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterLib.GetCategorySample(String machine, String category)↓↓ at System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterCategory.GetCounterInstances(String categoryName, String machineName)
The important to focus on is the error message below and this indicates that there is some issue in the "Performance Monitor/..counters" that is important for NPrinting to work.
......System.InvalidOperationException: Category does not exist.↓↓↓↓Server stack trace: ↓↓ at System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterLib.GetCategorySample.....
NPrinting June and up.
The problem could be that the registry key blocks the creation of the "Process" performance counter. The command failed and this has caused an abort of the connection creation in NPrinting.
Please, check following to be sure that this is the case and how to correct the issue.
Open "Performance Monitor" (looking for it in Windows start menu)
Then click on Monitoring tools>Performance monitor on the left pane
and click on the gerrn "+" in the ribbon bar
Search for "Process " in the window that opens.
If you do not see the "Process" counters, the problem is in the registry key.
How to solve it:
1. Open register Editor from the command prompt (regedit).
Add following key in the register editor if it´s missing and make sure to add the correct value, see below.
Reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance /v "Disable Performance Counters" /t REG_DWORD /d 0
For more information, see this link.
Before making any changes in the registry, make a backup of the registry if something goes wrong. Note that this is a suggestion how to solve the issue.
