This article provides guidance on how you can find which QVWs use specific QVD files. This will benefit customers who are pulling data from the same QVDs for various applications and may be hitting issues. E.g. Publisher tasks failing due to another task locking the QVD file.

This is possible with the Governance Dashboard, which reads the QVW lineage metadata.

You can download the Governance Dashboard from the Qlik Download site. After logging in, drill down to QlikView > Product > QlikView Governance Dashboard.

What is included in the dashboard is the reference to QVDs or other data sources which are read into the QVW with the following limitations/exceptions:

  1. No lineage is available for QVWs in which all data tables are dropped (example: reload QVWs which are just used to create/update QVDs and then the table is dropped).
  2. No details on how data from QVDs are manipulated in the load script. You just get the list of QVDs.
  3. No mapping within a QVW of which QVD (or data source) each table and field come from. You just get the list of all three items.
  4. No easy way to trace from end QVW (“dashboard”) back multiple levels of QVWs / QVDs to data source. It is sometimes possible (Depending on data loaded) but is a manual process.

In this example there is an with 118 sources, including 60 QVDs:

By clicking on one or more of the QVDs listed under Sources, you can see all of the QVWs which consume them.
