How to change the share path in Qlik Sense 3.1.2 and up
Article Number: 000028604 | Last Modified: 2019/01/17
The purpose of this guide is to walk through how to change the path in which Apps, ArchivedLogs, Custom Data (connectors), and Repository content are stored when using 3.1.2 or higher in Shared Persistence mode.
The path for Apps, etc are stored in the underlying Qlik Sense Repository Database and is not directly editable in the Qlik Management Console.
Go to the location where you want to move the files to and create a root folder for the subfolders to live in:
Right click on this Root folder > Properties then Select the Sharing Tab
At this point, the path is not shared to other machines / users
Click on the Share button and ensure that the Qlik Sense service account has at least read/write permissions and click share:
Click done and now we have a UNC path to a share. Copy this path in the Sharing tab and store it in a Text editor of some sort so that it can be used later.
Moving the folders / files
Now we will need to physically move the files from the old share path to the new share path.
Stop all services in the Qlik Sense site, on all nodes if a multi-node deployment
Open up the New and Old share paths in Windows File Explorer
Copy or Move the files from the Old share path to the New share path. Do note that this may take an extended period, especially if the site has a large volume of log files.
Configuring Qlik Sense to use the new share
In this step we will need to reconfigure the settings for Qlik Sense to use the new share location
Go to the install path for Qlik Sense (by default C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\) > Repository > Util > ServiceClusterTool and open the ServiceClusterTool.exe with Administrator rights. In November 2017 release, the path is C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Util\QlikSenseUtil and then open QlikSenseUtil tool.
Start the Qlik Sense Repository Database, Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher, and Qlik Sense Repository Service, in that order
Enter the following pieces of information:
User ID: This can be either postgres or qliksenserepository, with qliksenserepository being preferrable
Password: The password to the account specified earlier
Root Folder: The UNC path of the new share (e.g. \\QLIKSENSE\QlikSenseShare in this example)
Apps: The UNC path of the new Apps folder
Archived Logs: The UNC path of the new ArchivedLogs folder
Custom Data: The UNC path of the new CustomData folder
Static Content: The UNC path of the new StaticContent folder
Click Save to save the new settings. We should expect a success message indicating that the settings have been saved. If you do not receive this message, then recheck the User ID and password being used or contact Qlik Support if you are unable to proceed.
Stop the Qlik Sense Repository Database, Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher, and Qlik Sense Repository Service as indicated in the success message
Start all Qlik Sense services
Validate that the settings were successfully saved by inspecting the Service Cluster section of the QMC
