Unable to edit Excel report with Windows 10 with error "NPrinting Designer can't find a supported template editor for the file"

In the Windows Display Settings if the "Change the size of text, apps and other items" property is changed and the value is not equal to 100%, then NPrinting has problems embedding the Excel application inside it.

This will prevent you to create or edit an Excel report and might result in the error "NPrinting Designer can't find a supported template editor for the file". The application will hang and you will need to kill the process manually. However, in some environments, no errors are seen and the Designer process and the Microsoft product process (i.e. Excel, Word, etc) will remain in a hung state when inspecting via Task Manager.

Environment:

Resolution:

There are three workarounds to fix this problem:

  1. Set the "Change the size of text, apps and other items" property equal to 100% in the main display.
  2. If you have 2 monitors set the main display to be the one that has the property equal to 100%. If the problem persists, set all monitor to 100% of the size.
  3. Enable the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" property. This can be located in the NPrinting.exe application settings:
    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\NPrinting\Designer
    2. Right click the NPrinting.exe
    3. Open Properties
    4. Select the Compatibility tab
    5. Tick the Disable display scaling on high DPI settings box

  4. If available, also click on "Change high DPI Settings" and enable "Override high DPI scaling behaviour".

Cause:

This issue happens because the changing of the system property modifies the DPI of the display and the NPrinting application doesn’t support this MS Operating system Windows 10 change. There are no plans to modify NPrinting Designer to accommodate this operating system change.

@Bastien_Laugiero Hi Bastien, I was referred to this solution by @Lucas_Gatling  from Qlik support.  I don't see the option 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' listed under the NP Designer's Compatibility window. However the setting described in 'Change high DPI Settings' and enable "Override high DPI scaling behaviour".  are already existing without any change.

My Machine is runs Windows 10 64 bit. Can you suggest a solution further ?
