A warning message stating "A script on this page is causing your browser to run slowly" can occur when using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 to access QlikView applications in Full-Browser (AJAX) client.
Internet Explorer versions 4.0 through 8 time-out is based on the number of script statements that are executed, and not the actual time it takes to execute the statements. For more details see Microsoft's Knowledge base article 175500 through link below. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/175500
This time-out technique comes from a time period when web content was mostly generated on server side, and large client side script were a sign of endless loops in the script or would be too large for the client to handle.
ActiveX controls are not affected by this limit, and will execute as expected. This means that QlikView's Internet Explorer Plugin is not affected by this setting.
There are three possible ways to resolve the issue and remove the warning dialog in Internet Explorer (IE).
- Increase the warning message threshold as described in Microsoft Knowledge base article 175500; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/175500.
Registry key must be change on all client machines that use IE 8 to access the troubled QlikView application. Active Directory's Group Policy could be used to push change to all affected client machines.
- Upgrade browser to greater than IE8. Most sustainable solution is to upgrade to IE11, for best possible compatibility with QlikView 11.20.
NOTE: Microsoft limits Internet Explorer support from January 2016, making IE8 only supported in embedded OS. Reference: http://support2.microsoft.com/gp/microsoft-internet-explorer
- Deploy QlikView application in IE plugin instead of Full Browser client.
